The Pearl Safe Haven team were delighted to be invited as facilitators at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Center (KAIPTC) on 8th March 2019. The theme for 2019 is #BalanceforBetter which anticipates the need for us to address how truly balanced our world is.
Students from neighboring schools were invited to plenary sessions and topic-specific workshops including Dealing with Teenage Emotions, Meanings of gender-based violence, how to identify sexual abuse and available resources in the event of abuse.
The Pearl Safe Haven team worked with DOVVSU to share vital information on the services available to young people including the police (DOVVSU), social welfare, legal aid and shared the vision to build a shelter for young women in the near future. Students were encouraged to not stay silent in the event of threatened or actual abuse “These youth are our future leaders – it is important that they are empowered to create a future that is balanced by changing their narrative on gender-based violence today” Isobel Acquah, Project Director shared.
Students imprinted their palm in support of the theme.
Congratulations to the KAIPTC team, GIZ, WPSI and WANEP for an excellent event!
Donations are always appreciated, but there are lots of great ways to get involved.
